Podcast recommendations

In order to do the comic book podcast features that I have been doing, I have been listening to a lot of podcasts. Two individual episodes that really stand out are from friends of mine.

The first is Comic Timing No. 38, Religion and Comic Books. Ian Levenstein was joined by Noise Award winner Wayne Cordova, The Geek Pastor and John Mayo from The Mayo Report, The Comic Book Page podcast and Comic Book Resources. For almost one and a half hour, they deal with a potentially sensitive topic with respect and insight. I highly recommend listening to this episode. It is very entertaining.

The other is Kryptographik No. 12. Brian took the lead in this episode as he interviews two Eisner Award judges, Chris Reilly and James Sime. The first part of the show deals with their views on the state of the industry and a lot of the pressing issues of the time. The real meat of the show is when they get to the discussion about the Award process. Brian does a good job of steering the discussion and asking the right questions. Really good stuff and this is coming from someone who doesn’t like interviews.

Anyone who wants to see a couple of perfect examples of what citizen media can be need look no further than those two episodes. The roundtable format is used to perfection by Comic Timing, while Kryptographik pulls back the mask on a process that a lot of us had probably never even thought about. These are two of my favorite podcast episodes of all time.
