One of the 5: Krush Groove

I remember seeing this movie multiple times at the theater. If I recall correctly, it was first run at the Adams Theater in downtown Detroit.

That said, this trailer does NOT reflect what the movie was like and made it sound like the music in the movie was “Minneapolis sound”-ish when the movie was about rap and hip-hop. Of course, I think the trailer was made to capitalize more on the popularity of Prince than the popularity of Run DMC. I don’t blame them for trying to go for the mainstream audience rather than the niche (and possibly faddish for the time) sound of rap.

Krush Groove contains one of the greatest scenes in all of filmdom and I am not just throwing meaningless hyperbole out there. This scene was starmaking.

I remember the entire audience asking who was that guy at the beginning and wanting to buy this guy’s cassette when it was over. Also, I love Jam Master Jay’s reaction at the intrusion.

Here is a link to a site that has a great look at the behind the scenes stuff and a lot of trivia that I didn’t know:

However, if you want to buy it, buy it from here.
