The finalists for the SPACE awards have been announced. However, the Minicomic/Short Story category is the most important one because my friend Bruce Rosenberger is one of the finalists for his work on Dutchy Digest. Congratulations to Bruce and his co-creator Steven Hager.

MAC Cosmetics is coming out with a line of makeup based on the DC Comics heroine Wonder Woman. The products have names like Spitfire lipstick, Athena’s Kiss lipglass, Themyscira mascara, and Spirit of Truth nail lacquer. Some of them have been collected in Utility Belts (?) containing Eye Brushes or Face Brushes.
Most of the women I know are loyal to the makeup they buy and I doubt if they will drop it just because the Wonder Woman logo is on the package, but I am not the target audience for this product. I think it is interesting that while most of the names of the actual products are related in some way to Wonder Woman, some of the words and imagery of the official announcement at temptalia.com screams of Batman (and for some reason, it ends with the word ‘Shazam!’)
The line launches in the US and Canada on February 10 2011 and internationally in March 2011.
The Detroit News has a very interesting and in-depth article on the history behind the making of the new MMO ‘DC Universe Online’.
I have interviewed author Barry Nugent twice, for Comic Book Noise Talks and Episode 100, and he is on the “Friends I Haven’t In Person Yet” list. I have been really proud to watch the success he has been having with his first novel “Fallen Heroes“.
The latest bit of news from Barry is the announcement of a comic book adaptation of Fallen Heroes which is set to launch at Cardiff International Comic Expo in February. Check out the website http://www.fallenheroescomic.com for all the details.
According to Bleeding Cool (http://www.bleedingcool.com/2010/12/21/dc-comics-to-publish-marshal-law/) and creator Pat Mills, DC Comics is interested in reprinting Marshall Law. I am a long time fan of the book and would love to see it come back. I just hope a DC revival would mean that a lot of the non Epic stuff also gets reprinted. While I have most of the Epic, Apocalypse and Dark Horse printed stuff, I lost track of the character after Marshall Law: Secret Tribunal and had no idea he was printed by Cool Beanz, Image, or Titan Comics. There was also apparently a Marshall Law Omnibus printed by Top Shelf that came out in 2010. I need to find it.
There is also a really cool recap of the character’s history done by Josh over at Comic Attack.net.
Derek Coward has relinquished his duties as co-host of 2 People Talking. Remaining host Angela has placed the show on indefinite hiatus.
