November 19th, 2009 by Derek | 5 Comments | Filed in News

The following was posted on Eric Martin’s Facebook page:

My name is Michael Martin, I am Eric’s brother. I hate to pass this information so informally but I didn’t know any other way to reach many of Eric’s friends. My brother Eric died yesterday (Nov 18th) in his sleep from a massive heart attack. I dont have any information regarding his arrangements but you can all rest assured his wishes are being carried out.

The Comic Book Noise Family extends their most heartfelt condolences to Eric’s family and will be observing a week of Mourning.

Comic Book Podcast Show Status Update

June 9th, 2009 by Derek | No Comments | Filed in Comic Book Podcast Show, News

The show might be done.

I have too much stuff going on and will be scaling back some current shows and putting some possible shows on ice. The Incredible Hulkcast might become a part of The Readerfeed, but it might also be scrapped. The Queen and Country podcast that I have been working on might also become part of the Readerfeed. I want to continue Wrestling Noise only because it is the best logo/album art I have ever made.

I tried to get someone else to replace me on the show, but they can’t work it into their schedule. So If you want to host the podcast, let me know. You already have a built in audience, web hosting and administration.

Website Cleanup and Maintenance

January 7th, 2009 by Derek | No Comments | Filed in News

For the foreseeable future, I will be going through the website and doing maintenance on the individual posts, such as fixing categories, adding missing tags and correcting spelling error where I find them.

As a result, you MAY see old entries return to your RSS reader or podcatcher. I apologize for this. If anyone knows of a way that this can be avoided, please let me know.

Thanks,
Derek

Preparation for a new ReaderFeed podcast

November 29th, 2008 by Derek | 1 Comment | Filed in News, The Readerfeed

I have been reading The Definitive Queen and Country trades from Oni Press. I tore through the first two volumes and was in the middle of the third one when it got to the part of the story where the prose novels fit. So even though I was in the groove, I stopped and immediately ordered the two books from the Amazon Marketplace.

While I was waiting, I decided to re-read the first two volumes again. During the re-read, I decided to do a ReaderFeed podcast about Q&C.

This means that in addition to The FellCast (which I have not forgot), I will also be doing two with David A Price (Milestone Comics and Quantum & Woody, as soon as our schedules mesh), a Love & Rockets one (I’m still working out a format for it) and now a Queen and Country one (I’m taking notes and thinking up a name as we speak).

My comic buying is currently on hiatus and this affects all of my other podcasts (CBNoise, ICBN, #1, etc), but with the ReaderFeed shows, I am talking about older comics that I already own, so there won’t be much an impact. (Love the structure of that last sentence?)

So if you want to play along at home, here are some Amazon links to the books that I will be discussing.

The Definitive Queen and Country Vol. 1

The Definitive Queen and Country Vol. 2

The Definitive Queen and Country Vol. 3

A new ‘Dick Tracy’ movie

November 22nd, 2008 by Derek | 2 Comments | Filed in News

According to TMZ.com, Warren Beatty was making a new Dick Tracy movie, but the rights expired. He is trying to get them back, but there is some sort of issue.

Here are the court documents that he has filed against Tribune Media Services.

Weird, but I haven’t heard ANYTHING about a new Dick Tracy movie. Usually I read about comic book/strip movies and I might forget about them, but once I am reminded I remember that I forgot about them. With this one, I don’t remember anything about it.

Did anyone know about it?

The Legion of Substitute Podcasters = Time Savers

November 18th, 2008 by Derek | 1 Comment | Filed in News

A few months ago, I borrowed The Legion of Super-Heroes Archives Volumes 2 through 8 from my good friend Chris Marshall from The Collected Comics Library. My plan was to read them all and to somehow fit a LSH podcast into my schedule. However, before I could pull the trigger on my plan, two of my favorite podcasters teamed up with two of their friends to create the Legion of Substitute Podcasters podcast.

I still plan on finishing the Archives because I eventually have to get them back to Chris (or at the pace I’m going, his estate), but in the meantime I will fit the LSP into my podcast listening rotation and save myself a bunch of time.

iTunes U features Superheroes

November 4th, 2008 by Derek | 1 Comment | Filed in News

I was poking around in the iTunes store and I saw something in the iTunes U section called ‘Superheroes: Fashion and Fantasy‘. The Description is: “Exhibition dates: May 7-September 1, 2008. The symbolic and metaphorical associations between fashion and the superhero are explored in this compelling exhibition. Featuring movie costumes, avant-garde haute couture, and high-performance sportswear, it reveals how the superhero serves as the ultimate metaphor for fashion and its ability to empower and transform the human body.”

These are videos featuring such comic book luminaries as Paul Levitz, Danny Fingeroth, Alex Ross, John Cassaday, Michael Uslan, Adi Granov and others. The videos are between 21 minutes and one hour. The titles include ‘E Pluribus Unitard: Notes towards a Theory of Superhero Costuming’, ‘The Boys in the Hoods: The Costumed Vigilante as Urban Dandy’ and ‘The Gods of Greece, Rome, and Egypt Still Exist-Only Today They Wear Spandex and Capes!’ I will be checking them out as soon as I can.
