I had a power outage and couldn\'t remember what I said in what part, so I just talked.

I didn\'t mention The Avengers beating the aliens, because I couldn\'t remember if we were shown how strong the aliens were. There just seemed to be a lot of them.

Prior to the 80s, comics were grim and gritty but the vast majority of them were Marvel books. Grim and gritty wasn\'t as mainstream as it would become.

Sidebar: the "sign in with twitter" link doesn't work, for whatever reason. Not on any of my browsers. Why? Dunno.

OK, let's talk about the actual podcast. Um, why did you have to say what you said, and then play a clip where you said the same thing again?

While the Nolan Batman films were "more" realistic, they still were far from realistic. In fact, all you would have to do is put Schumacher colors on that thing and it's just as ridiculous. Batman's crippled, but now he's fine!

Batman's paralyzed, oh just stretch his back out! Falling from that height with a rope around your waist would, at the very least, fuck up your just-repaired spinal cord. At most, it would kill you. Has Bruce Wayne never read the death of Gwen Stacy? Batman's fine, though.

Oh, and do I even have to discuss what a nuclear explosion would do to a man when he's near the epicenter of it? Maybe he used his cape to glide away or something, but they didn't give us any visual of how soon he bailed.

So this "real" Batman isn't all that real. I'll go as far as to say that after Begins, these movies escape reality.

Oh, also, Avengers. You didn't bring that up whatsoever. There's base level humans in that film, and they're wrecking aliens. SPOILERS, they go have some schwarma instead of going to the hospital. Not surreal enough for you?

Also, you bring up the death of Gwen Stacy. When was that? Oh, right, in the 70s. It's not just The Dark Knight Returns or Watchmen that brought the real to comics. Sure, Spider-man can swing across city blocks and lift cars, but then his life as a superhero and a civilian clashed horrifically.

If you're honest, you can dig through the crates of Superhero history, Superheroes were getting dark and "gritty" before the 80s.

If I have an issue with anything, I would agree that superhero comics (some) just feel like a test ground for films. If DC ever gets their shit together and hit with more than just Batman, I could see them doing the same dumb shit that Marvel does, injecting elements of the films, as if anyone reading cares, and as if anyone watching the films is going to buy comics.

Since you've brought it up, maybe The Dark Night Rises is a better tale of a failed integration program than it is a Batman film.

I guess Lucius Fox got in under a quota, but then they tried to bus in Major Colvin, and he didn't even make it over the bridge. Then they tried to sneak a black man in, and Bane was so pissed, he had the dude killed!

If anyone was during his duties more out of obligation than joy, I think it's Nolan, not Christian Bale as Batman. I liked all the movies, but this is the weakest one, and it feels like Nolan was kinda happy to be done with it, and he didn't feel as interested in tightening up loose plot points, or securing the realism that people claim the series has.

1) No, I wouldn\'t say he\'s a socialist or commie, but he is definitely an imperialist and a bully. And a douche.

2) Percentage wise, I would bet that more of the 200,000 read the Avengers comic book than the 1,000,000,000. You should cater to who gives you the money on a regular basis. That said, it bugs me that Marvel\'s Avengers Assemble book, which should be about the movie team, is adding dead weight like Spider-Woman.

The character of Steve Rogers may be intended to be personal freedom, but look at what he really does and you will see that it is clearly imperialism at best. He is a bully wrapped in a flag. There is very little difference between the way he is presented now and the way John Walker was presented in the 90s. The only one I can see is the lack of overt racism.

What Shel was trying to say is that the character of Steve Rogers is about personal freedom. The Registration Act is against that. Tony is a free market, corporation loving type of guy. Those people are actually against the workers and citizens having freewill. The only way people like Tony can rule is if there are subordinates. It makes total sense to have that character rep the SHRA and bump uglies with Maria Hill.

It doesn\'t matter because they are making it up by pulling it out of their asses. They are owned by Disney now, why should they give a fuck? Marvel Studios can make all the movies they want because they ignore the comic books, just like the majority of the rest of the world. Creators keep saying that they shouldn\'t cater to the people who care about continuity, but they fail to realize that they are the ones who still give a shit about comic books.

If you notice one thing, the character assassination of Cyclops started around the same time as the total douchification of Captain America. I would say that Marvel had been planning this for a long time, but I really don\'t think they give much long term thought into anything that isn\'t related to the comic books they make movies out of.

I haven't listened to all of your argument on Cap and I am already in complete disagreement with you. 1. The whole reason he was against teh US Governments involvement with the registration is that he felt like it went against our basic freedoms. That is what CAP stands for. He was used as a tool and for propaganda with the U.S. Government and guess what, he didn't like it a bit. He is standing up for everyone's right to have their privacy. That is Cap 100%.

I think the hypothetical complaining listener got it worse in this podcast than Cap.

So, Derek, were you making Cyclops the dog in your Michael Vick analogy because you don't want him to have any credit for helming the all-new, all different, all-murderous x-force?

Cap's a douche, but look how many "criminals" are on both sides. No wonder the X-men and Avengers have been brought together.

They can compare body counts now.

I still miss the live streams...

Wonder Woman has easily been the best book since the reboot(excluding Batman Inc because that wouldn't be fair). I like it to call it a superhero drama.

I gave up on Robinson's Presents story after the first issue. It just didn't hook me..

World's Finest has been so much better than expected but we're 3 issues in and still dealing with this bad guy who still doesn't feel like a big threat. The dialogue has been a bit too cheesy for my tastes. Actually, that's the same problem I have with Earth 2. Cheesy dialogue with basic situations makes for a boring read.

Coincidentally, I read CC & The Night Things last week and really enjoyed it. I'm still an old-school guy, so I'm trying to track down hard copies of the next two graphic novels. I agree - the book's dark and cynical enough to appeal to teens and really should be adapted into novels.
