Host Derek Coward talks about some comic books that he recently picked up.
Pluto Vol 2 (Viz Media) – I still have a review to do of the first one. Will I like it or will I have bought the second one because the first one left a bad taste in my eyeballs? Stay tuned to find out.
Incorruptible 5 (BOOM! Studios) – I will probably buy everything I can get from the Irredeemable-verse or whatever it is called.
Irredeemable 13 (BOOM! Studios) – This is why I will probably buy everything I can get from the Irredeemable-verse or whatever it is called.
Codebreakers 2 (BOOM! Studios) – I really liked the first issue. Thanks for the recommendation John.
Buck Rogers 11 (Dynamite Entertainment) – I hate the fact this title is ending with the next issue.
28 Days Later 10 (BOOM! Studios) – I think I may like the comic book more than I liked the original movie (and definitely more than the second movie).
The Great Ten 7 (DC Comics) – Despite the false advertising of the cover (which says 7 of 10), this mini will only be going nine issues. I blame everyone who is reading this post, but didn’t buy the book. You are horrible terrible people, but thanks for visiting the site. (And realize that I am bitter, but I still love you all).
iZombie 1 (Vertigo) – This better be good or else I will blame Vince B.
Superman: War of the Supermen 1 (DC Comics) – I don’t know why I want to get this, but I think it will be a real hoot. I just get the bad feeling that I will be picking up a lot of Superman/Action Comics trades in my near future.
Pilot Season: Stealth (Top Cow) – I liked the first couple of Kirkman Pilot Season issues and I liked the Velocity issue from last year. I seriously doubt if I will dislike this one.
Wow, no Marvel Comics this week.
This is a full list of what I actually picked up this week from Detroit Comics.
Siege Embedded 2 (Marvel) – I was missing this issue, but luckily there was one copy left.
Siege Embedded 3 (Marvel) – Since I was there getting issue 2…
Siege 3 (Marvel) – My comic book dealer didn’t grab this because I didn’t put it on my pull list, which may have been a mistake because it is extremely popular at the shop.
Milestone Forever (Milestone/DC Comics) – Part of me is sad this is the last Milestone story being told with these characters. I am holding out hope that DC will do right by the characters, but I am increasingly getting the feeling that Static will be the only one still around in a couple of years. I hope I’m wrong.
Irredeemable 12 (BOOM! Studios) – This is one of my favorite books being published right now. I got the Panosian cover.
Green Hornet Year One 1 (Dynamite Entertainment) – Written by Matt Wagner with covers by Matt Wagner. I would prefer that he was working on Mage 3, but that’s cool, I have high hopes for this title.
Choker 2 (Image) – The Bens (Templesmith and McCool) put out a very enjoyable first issue, so I have no reason to believe they will falter on the second.
28 Days Later 8 (BOOM! Studios) – I am still loving this book. I picked up the Tim Bradstreet cover and it is a thing of beauty.
The Boys Vol 6: The Self-Preservation Society (Dynamite Entertainment) – I didn’t have the money last week and to be honest with you, I should have put it off for a couple of more weeks but I hate leaving stuff in the pull box.
The Marvel books were picked up off the shelves. Everything else was on my pull list. If it wasn’t for Siege, I wouldn’t have had anything from Marvel or DC (I don’t really count the Milestone book, but I suppose I should).
I also found out the shop doesn’t carry any manga. It just doesn’t sell. Not it sells poorly, it apparently wasn’t selling at all, so he turned around and sold his entire manga inventory to a local library. Weird, huh?
Siege: Embedded #3
28 Days Later #8
Green Hornet Year One #1
Plus the latest ‘The Boys’ trade that I couldn’t afford last week.
Of course, this is all contingent upon whether my comic book dealer set everything aside for me.
So far this is probably my least favorite issue of the series so far, but that’s because it spotlights Bette Noir, who is probably my least favorite regular character. And the villain Orian isn’t one I like either.
However, the scene at the dinner table was chilling, creepy and worth the price of admission.
This is what I got this week from Detroit Comics:
Stumptown 1 (Oni Press): I have already read the second issue and liked it. I’m glad Brian was able to find the first issue for me.
Captain Swing and the Electrical Pirates of Cindery Island 1 of 4 (Avatar Press): I haven’t heard anything about this book, but Brian pulled it for me because he thought I might like it. We’ll see if I add the rest of the issues to my pull list.
DeadWorld: Frozen Over 4 of 4 (Desperado Publishing): I have had this on my pull list for so long that I forgot it was there until Brian showed me. I completely forgot what was going on in this book. It will be a long time before I get another DeadWorld/Mike Raicht/Federico Dallocchio/Desperado Publishing single issue. I might pick up a trade, but this long time between issues has really soured me on the franchise/creators/publisher.
Image United 0 of 6 (Image Comics): I have really been enjoying this series. I have said it in the past, it is like a puppy: big, goofy, stupid and fun.
Irredeemable 11 (BOOM! Studios): I still think this is one of the best books out there right now and I can’t wait to read this issue.
Fantastic Four 576 (Marvel Entertainment Comics): I am thoroughly enjoying the Hickman/Eaglesham/Mounts run on this title. It’s not that I didn’t like the previous creative teams, I just never read them.
Buck Rogers 9 (Dynamite Entertainment): I always smile when I see another issue has come out.
Madame Xanadu 20 (Vertigo): Joelle Jones is handling the art chores on this issue (and the last). There is nothing wrong with her artwork, but I started getting this title because of the Amy Reeder Hadley pencils and I get frustrated when she isn’t on the book.
Fall of The Hulks: Red Hulk 2 (Marvel Entertainment Comics): Yeah, I know, but Jeff Parker had me at “Hello”.
28 Days Later 7 (BOOM! Studios): I don’t know why more people aren’t getting and talking about this book. It is as enjoyable as the first movie and better than the second.
Choker 1 of 6 (Image Comics): I loves me some Templesmith. I don’t remember ever reading a Ben McCool story, but he would have to be absolutely horrible for me to not like this title and I don’t ever remember hearing that he is absolutely horrible.
